Probiotic powder
Live bacteria fermentation is a relatively primitive form. Because the special strains of probiotics themselves actually smell bad, many products will add some seasonings to make the flavor taste better.
Advantages: Aluminum bag packaging has better light-proof properties and can effectively block air, increase the survival of live bacteria, is easy to carry, and can accommodate more bacterial powder.
Disadvantages: Some products will add flavorings to make them taste better, such as: juice powder, sucrose...etc.
Probiotic capsules
The probiotic powder is wrapped with a layer of capsule material to block some of the unpleasant odors of the probiotics, but it cannot block oxygen and moisture.
Advantages: It makes probiotics less susceptible to the digestive environment, blocks the unpleasant smell of probiotics, and is easy to take.
Disadvantages: The capsule shell is easily affected by moisture and exposed to oxygen. In addition, due to the size of the capsule, the number of bacteria in a single capsule is limited.
Probiotic Tablets
Because live bacteria are relatively fragile, and the tablet production process requires high temperature, high pressure, and adhesives to extrude and form (adhesives account for about 90% of the total), live bacteria are easily killed in the process.
In addition, due to volume limitations, the number of bacteria that each tablet can contain is limited.
advantage:
- Easy for adults to swallow
shortcoming:
- Because tablet production requires high temperature and high pressure, the production process can easily cause the death of live bacteria.
- Contains excipient ingredients required for the process, such as adhesives.
Probiotic drops
Probiotic drops are made by mixing probiotic powder with oil, but probiotic powder is water-soluble and incompatible with oil, so it easily settles to the bottom of the bottle. Therefore, it is recommended to "shake evenly before consumption". Common probiotic drops used for infants and young children mainly coat the probiotics in the form of oil to reduce the impact of the live bacteria on the environment.
advantage:
- Protected by oil, it can reduce the activity of live bacteria affected by the environment
- Easy to eat for infants and young children
shortcoming:
- Probiotic powder cannot be dissolved in oil and is easy to settle to the bottom. Even if it is shaken evenly each time, the probiotic content that may drip out may be different.
- Repeated use may affect stability due to external environment
