For the treatment of cold sore infections
Suddenly, your lips feel tight, itchy, and burning.
Anyone who has ever had a cold sore knows that the annoying and often painful blisters will soon appear. Aciclostad®
Cold Sore Cream is a cream for relieving pain and itching caused by cold sores. Cold sores appear as painful blisters on the lips when the immune system is weakened. The medicine can relieve the typical symptoms such as tightness, itching, and burning on the lips. In addition, this medicine for cold sores inhibits the further spread of the virus. Aciclostad®
How Aciclostad® works against cold sores:
Aciclostad® relieves cold sore symptoms such as tightness, itching, and burning in the lip area and effectively promotes healing. Its active ingredient is the antiviral drug aciclovir. This substance inhibits the replication of the virus. The aciclovir in the medicine is initially in an inactive form. It is only activated when it enters cells infected with the herpes virus. After conversion, the antiviral drug prevents the virus from spreading further within its genetic material. Treatment with Aciclovir® relieves pain, cold sores recede, and healing is promoted.
Causes of cold sores:
Although the so-called herpes simplex virus never becomes active in many people, almost everyone has been infected with it. The virus remains dormant in the body for life after infection. In some people, the virus causes tingling, itching, and pain in irregular outbreaks. When cold sores appear on the lips, it is usually because the oral mucosa is infected with herpes simplex virus type 1. This often occurs when the body is weakened. Infections, colds, excessive physical exertion, or even psychological stress can be precursors to a cold sore outbreak.
How long are cold sores contagious?
The herpes virus is spread through skin contact and is therefore highly contagious. It can be transmitted by kissing or sharing objects such as cutlery. The blisters are most contagious before they appear and while they are visible. After five to eight days, a yellow or brownish crust forms. Once the crust has formed, the risk of infection decreases. Important information: Aciclostad® for cold sores contains 50 mg per gram of cream.
Active ingredient: aciclovir. For relieving pain and itching caused by recurrent herpes (recurrent labial herpes) on the lips. Note: Apply the cream at the first sign of symptoms (burning, itching, tightness, redness). Ingredients: cetyl alcohol and propylene glycol. For risks and side effects, read the package leaflet and ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Application
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, apply the medicine to the affected areas 5 times a day at intervals of 4 hours
. The treatment usually lasts 5 days. Aciclostad® should be continued until the blisters have crusted over or healed. Continued use of Aciclostad® is not recommended for antiviral treatment. Consult a doctor if the condition has not improved or has worsened after 10 days. Aciclostad®
Tips for use:
It is advisable to apply Aciclostad® thinly to the affected skin areas using a cotton swab.
It is recommended to also treat the areas adjacent to the visible symptoms of herpes, including blisters, swelling, and redness.
If the product is applied by hand, the hands should be thoroughly cleaned before and after application to prevent further infection of the damaged skin areas (e.g. bacterial infection) or the spread of the virus to uninfected mucous membranes and skin areas.
Notes
If you are allergic to aciclovir or any of the other ingredients in the cream (e.g. valaciclovir or propylene glycol), you should avoid using Aciclostad® for cold sores.
Furthermore, the preparation should not be used on mucous membranes, as it can cause irritation.
Consult a doctor before use if you have a severely weakened immune system, are pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
