Postdam Palace Tour

Postdam Palace Tour in Germany

Taking advantage of the long holiday in Germany, I came to Potsdam, a small city on the outskirts of Berlin. The city has beautiful scenery and the pace is not as fast as Berlin. There are about 30 palaces of various sizes in the city of Potsdam, the most famous of which is Sanssouci Palace, because it is one of the most beautiful palaces in Germany.

Sanssouci Palace

Baroque-style carvings, but not as magnificent as French architecture

This palace was built in the mid-18th century by King Friedrich the Great when Germany was still the Kingdom of Prussia. Frederick the Great was a successful military commander who built the best army in Europe through strict discipline and training. The Prussian Kingdom defeated the Austrian Kingdom, occupied Silesia (part of present-day Poland and the Czech Republic), and established the Prussian Kingdom's position as a powerful force in Europe. Because Frederick the Great won several battles, he decided to build a summer palace in Potsdam. The Sanssouci Palace, which sounds a bit French, was intended to be the Versailles of the Kingdom of Prussia.

But I think this German-style palace still feels a little different from the Palace of Versailles in France. The overall architecture of the Sanssouci Palace is relatively refreshing, with a single color tone and without numerous decorations. It is neatly and neatly arranged, unlike French architecture which is so exaggerated. I think this is the so-called German style, low-key, calm, clean and pleasing to the eye.

Neues Palais

The Sanssouci Palace was a summer palace built by Frederick the Great for his summer escape, so there are many gardens and large lawns inside and outside the palace, and the flowers here are decorated with a very romantic summer atmosphere. It really makes people immersed in this beautiful scenery.

The Sanssouci Palace covers a total area of 290 hectares, and the main garden road in front of the palace is 2.5 kilometers long, so many Germans come here to walk their dogs, play with their children, or ride bicycles when the weather is good. There are many people, but the hinterland is large, so everyone can find a piece of land that they like. It would probably take a whole day to tour this huge palace! It's a great place to stop and walk, bring a sandwich, and have a picnic under the shade of the trees in the garden when you're tired.

In addition to the Sanssouci Palace, there are other small palaces here, one of which is the unique Chinese Tea Pavilion, the Chinesisches Teehaus. This Chinese tea pavilion is magnificent, and the exterior carvings are mainly of Chinese people. It is said that Frederick the Great often drank tea here, and it is now a very popular tourist attraction.

Although I was a little tired after walking around all day, I was quite satisfied to see such a beautiful palace in Germany. I dream of living next to the palace, and looking out the window every morning to see such a beautiful scenery.
