How does diarrhea occur?

Diarrhea, medically known as loose stools, refers to loose stools that occur more than three times a day. Diarrhea has a variety of causes and is usually a protective response by the body. Drink at least two liters of liquid (tea, mineral water) every day, and it is recommended to add 1 teaspoon of salt per liter. In more serious cases, electrolyte powders purchased from a pharmacy should be used, which already contain the correct mixture of salts required by the body. Lemon water with a high sugar content should be avoided as the high sugar content can further irritate the intestines due to the water absorption effect.

To prevent food poisoning during travel, the most important hygiene rules should always be followed, since the immune system cannot fight off foreign pathogens as well as those familiar at home. Possible sources of infection include undercooked food, unpeeled fruit, seafood, or tap water.

How should Kohle Hevert® tablets be used?

Unless otherwise prescribed, adults with diarrhea should take 2 to 4 tablets dissolved in plenty of liquid and stirred 3 to 4 times a day; children should take half the amount. It can also be chewed or taken whole with plenty of liquid.

If poisoning occurs, the dose can be safely increased to 50 tablets mixed into a liquid paste. In this case, it is recommended to wait 30 to 60 minutes before taking a saline laxative such as sodium sulfate. If poisoning is suspected, contact a physician or poison control center immediately. Different poisons and drugs may require different or additional measures.

If you suspect poisoning, notify your doctor or emergency services immediately! Different poisons and drugs may require different or additional measures. In case of acute poisoning you should call the poison control center responsible for your area and follow the instructions.

You should not take Kohle Hevert® if you have diarrhoea with fever.

After very high doses (such as those taken in poisoning), constipation and ileus (mechanical intestinal obstruction) may occur in isolated cases and can be prevented by taking saline laxatives (such as sodium sulfate). Since the charcoal is excreted unchanged, your stool will turn black after taking Kohle Hevert® tablets.

Do not use this medicine after the expiration date which is stated on the package or packaging. The expiry date is the last day of the specified month.
