Braun
Since 1967, the Braun brand razors, kettles, dishwashers, etc. that can be found everywhere in German stores are actually no longer from Germany. The company was founded in 1921 as a small engineering shop in Kronberg in the Taunus region of Germany. The two sons of founder and mechanic Max Braun sold it to the American company Gillette in 1967.
Beck's Beer
Germany, as the country of beer, has always sold many important brands. As early as 2002, the Bremen brewery Beck's was acquired by the Belgian brewing group Interbrew for 1.8 billion euros . That same year, the Belgian company also acquired Hasseröder, East Germany's most popular beer brand. A year later, InBev followed suit by acquiring the Munich breweries Spaten, Löwenbräu and Franziskaner, which were merged into a combined group in 1997. InBev then merged with the American beer group Anheuser-Busch to form the world's largest beer group, AB InBev.
Capri-Sonne
Although it is sold worldwide, Fruit Power was originally invented in Germany. The brand was developed in 1971 by Rudolf Wild in Heidelberg as a food ingredient company based on natural ingredients. Today it is licensed for sale in over 24 countries and is also very successful in the United States (as "Capri-Sun"). In 2010, Wilder sold a stake in the company to New York-based investor KKR, which wanted to help the drink become a global success. To this end, a new company called Wild Flavors was established in Switzerland. The company was subsequently acquired by Chicago-based American food manufacturer ADM for approximately 2.3 billion euros in 2014.
Erasco
In 1870, Charlotte Erasmi invented the Erasco canned soup in Lübeck. Technological improvements and favorable transportation links, coupled with his own asparagus plantations and mushroom cultivation, created conditions for large-scale industrial production, and Erasco was awarded the title of "Royal Supplier to the Court." The brand name that bears her name was not legally protected until 1950, and finished products began to be produced in 1968. The resulting Erasco Ltd. was sold in 1996 to its American competitor, Campbell Soup Company, from New Jersey. Campbell Soup Company sold its European business and Erasco to Luxembourg-based investment group CVC in 2013.
Knorr
The instant soup manufacturer from Heilbronn has been around since 1838, but it took founder Carl Heinrich Theodor Knorr almost 40 years to find his destiny in the food industry. Prior to this, Knorr-Bremse had tried to become a manufacturer of coffee substitutes and a cloth supplier under the same brand, but both attempts were unsuccessful. It wasn't until 1873 that the first instant soups were produced.
Landliebe Country Love
This popular yogurt brand was originally created by the Südmilch group of companies. However, the group merged with FrieslandCampina BV. of the Netherlands in 1993. As a result, Country Love yogurt is now a subsidiary of Royal FrieslandCampina of the Netherlands. The jams of the same name, however, are an exception: They are still developed and sold by the German manufacturer Zentis.
