Do not take this medicine if:
- You are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
- You are taking medicines called nitrates, as the combination of these medicines can lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Consult your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines (they are often used to relieve angina pectoris or "chest pain"). Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- You are taking medicines known as nitric oxide donors, such as amyl nitrite ("poppers"), as this combination can also lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
- You are taking riociguat. This medicine is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs with blood clots). PDE5 inhibitors such as riociguat have been shown to enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect of riociguat. If you are taking riociguat or are unsure, speak to your doctor.
- You have a severe heart or liver disease.
- You have recently had a stroke or heart attack, or if you have low blood pressure.
- You have certain rare hereditary eye diseases (such as retinitis pigmentosa).
- You have or have ever had vision loss due to non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION).
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. The recommended starting dose is 50 mg.
- Do not take this medicine more than once a day.
- Do not take the film-coated tablets at the same time as the orodispersible tablets.
- If you have the impression that the effect of this medicine is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
- This medicine will only help you get an erection if you are sexually stimulated. The time until the medicine takes effect varies from person to person, but usually takes half an hour to an hour. You may find that it takes longer to work if you take it with a heavy meal.
- You should tell your doctor if the medicine does not give you an erection, or if the erection does not last long enough to complete sexual intercourse.
-
If you take more of the medicine than you should
- Side effects may occur more frequently and be more severe. Doses over 100 mg do not increase the effect.
- Do not take more tablets than your doctor has prescribed.
- Tell your doctor if you have taken more tablets than prescribed.
- If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional.
- Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The side effects associated with this medicine are mostly mild to moderate and short-lived.
