During sleep, tear production is minimal, so it is not possible to use eye drops for regular lubrication at night. HYLO NIGHT® has been specially developed for the nighttime protection of the ocular surface. The soft and smooth eye ointment is easy to apply to the irritated ocular surface, and its richness in vitamin A soothes burning, dry, and tired eyes. HYLO NIGHT® is preservative-free and therefore extremely well-tolerated. The concentrated eye ointment can be used for 6 months after opening. HYLO NIGHT® serves as a nighttime complement to HYLO® eye drops for all stages of dry eye.

Soft eye ointment with vitamin A

Vitamin A is an essential nutrient for the human body; for instance, it is crucial for regulating growth and protecting mucous membranes. It is also known as the "eye vitamin" due to its important role in vision and tear production. This vitamin is a natural component of the tear film and contributes to the good tolerability of HYLO NIGHT® eye ointment. It also ensures that the ointment mixes well with the natural tear film, allowing the eyelids to glide more easily over the cornea and conjunctiva.

Different stages of dry eyes

Dry eyes, also known as dry eye syndrome, can manifest with various symptoms such as burning, redness, or itching; the eyes may feel tired or irritated. For mild to moderate symptoms, moisturizing eye drops can provide quick relief. For more severe or chronic cases, special highly viscous gel eye drops are recommended as they adhere to the ocular surface for an extended period. Additionally, applying eye ointment before bedtime can provide intensive lubrication for all types of dry eyes and promote the regeneration of the damaged ocular surface.

The feeling of sand in the eye

Dry eyes not only cause discomfort during the day. Since tear production is insufficient during sleep, many affected individuals wake up with the sensation of a foreign body in their eye. This sensation is caused by the inner surface of the eyelids sticking to the ocular surface, which results from dry eyes. When the eyelids are opened, they rub against the dry ocular surface, triggering this discomfort. Applying HYLO NIGHT® eye ointment before bed can effectively prevent this foreign body sensation in the morning.

How often should HYLO NIGHT® eye ointment be used?
HYLO NIGHT® improves the tear film and protects the ocular surface. Please use the eye ointment according to your individual needs and/or the recommendations of your ophthalmologist. HYLO NIGHT® is suitable for all stages of dry eyes and can be used as a complementary treatment to moisturizing eye drops such as HYLO COMOD® or HYLO GEL®. Before going to bed, apply about 0.5 cm of eye ointment into the conjunctival sac of each eye. If the dry eye is severe and discomfort is strong, it can also be used during the day. Do not use HYLO NIGHT® simultaneously with other eye medications. If concurrent use is necessary, apply HYLO NIGHT® approximately 30 minutes after the other eye medication.

Does using HYLO NIGHT® impair vision?
HYLO NIGHT® eye ointment forms a long-lasting protective film on the eye. Due to its oily consistency, it may slightly impair vision, so it is primarily recommended for nighttime use. If you wish to use HYLO NIGHT® during the day, do not drive or otherwise actively participate in road traffic, operate machinery, or engage in activities that require a secure footing.

Can HYLO NIGHT® be used with contact lenses?
No, HYLO NIGHT® eye ointment should not be used while wearing contact lenses. For intense lubrication of the eyes, contact lens wearers can choose different eye drops from the HYLO® family, depending on the severity of their dry eye symptoms.

Do eyes need to be covered after using HYLO NIGHT®?
No. The only exception is in cases of incomplete eyelid closure (lagophthalmos). In such cases, after consulting an ophthalmologist, a so-called "watch glass dressing" may be recommended for nighttime use. This transparent dressing creates a moist environment and prevents the eye from drying out.

Application

Step 1:
Tilt your head slightly back and gently pull your lower eyelid away from your eye with the index finger of one hand.

Step 2:
Hold the ointment tube vertically over your eye with your other hand. Gently squeeze the tube and apply a small amount of ointment into the conjunctival sac.

Step 3:
Slowly close your eye. Any excess ointment can be wiped away with a damp compress or cloth.

Notes

• When applying the eye ointment, direct contact of the ointment tip with the eye and facial skin should be avoided. Only one eye ointment should be used per person to prevent the transmission of bacteria and pathogens.
• Ingredient: Lanolin alcohol (wool wax/lanolin)
